The original insulation had compressed to about R-8 and was riddled with rat droppings. We removed everything, sanitized the deck, air sealed the top plates, and blew in Owens Corning fiberglass to R-38. The homeowners reported a $90 drop in their summer cooling bill the first month. That attic went from a place nobody wanted to open to one they show off to neighbors.
Crawl Space Encapsulation: Standing Water in College Park
This crawl space flooded every winter and the damp air was pushing musty smells straight up into the living room. We removed the failed insulation, installed a 12-mil vapor barrier up the stem walls, and sealed the vents. The humidity dropped within a week and the odor vanished. It’s the kind of fix that makes you wonder why you waited so long.
Radiant Barrier Installation: Westside Costa Mesa Ranch
The second story of this home ran 10 degrees hotter than the first every afternoon. We installed a radiant barrier across the entire roof deck, cutting the radiant heat gain by up to 85% on the underside of the roof. The upstairs bedrooms finally matched the rest of the house. Combined with air sealing, the AC stopped cycling every 15 minutes.
Spray Foam Insulation: Open-Cell in a Vaulted Ceiling Addition
A mid-2000s addition was built with no insulation in the vaulted ceiling, so the room was unusable in summer. Our techs sprayed open-cell Icynene into every rafter bay, fully adhering to the roof deck. The difference was immediate: the room now holds temperature year round. Most jobs like this are completed in a single visit, and this one was no exception.
Blown-In Insulation Top-Up: Eastside Costa Mesa Condo
The condo association recommended insulation, but nobody knew how much was actually up there. We measured 3.5 inches in a 1968 building, way below current code. We blew GreenFiber cellulose over the entire attic to R-38 and added baffles at the eaves for ventilation. The unit went from the hottest one on the top floor to the coolest. The HOA has since called us back for two more buildings.
Attic Cleaning & Rodent Proofing: Mesa del Mar
Raccoons had torn open a gable vent and used the attic as a nursery. We removed every trace of contaminated insulation, fogged the space, sealed the vent with hardware cloth, and installed new Rockwool batt. The homeowner had been losing sleep over the scratching above the bedroom. Now it’s silent up there.
